2010 Youth Polar Bear Tournament: Feb. 20 - 21, 2010 DATES/TIMES: Saturday, Feb. 20, and Sunday, Feb. 21, beginning at 8:00AM both days. Makeup date, if necessary: Feb. 27, then Feb. 28. ENTRY DEADLINE: the Wednesday before the tournament at 9PM. WHAT IS IT? Youth players of all levels, including 2009 graduates, may register. The unique format emphasizes participation and good sportsmanship even more than winning. To ensure closer matches, players are grouped by ability level. It's expected that all players can get their serves in, keep score, and sustain a rally. There is no upper talent limit. Players receive at least two matches, win or lose. WEATHER GUIDELINES: In the event of rain or snow flurries, the courts take 1.5 hours to dry. Normally, all match times will be pushed back accordingly rather than cancelling the entire day. Due to unpredictable numbers, however, Tournament Director will make the final grouping. ______ Red Group: For middle school and younger players who can keep score, make line calls, and serve well enough to play a match but who have little or no match experience. ______ Green Group: For middle school and younger players who have learned the basic shots and have a little previous match experience. ______ Blue Group: For high school and middle school players who are fairly proficient with all the basic shots and have been playing matches for some time. This is the recommended group for high school players who haven’t yet started on their teams. ______ Purple Group: For high school players and younger who are proficient with the basic shots and can use different strategies as well.
